When it comes to family relationships, the one between siblings is the one that will probably last the longest. After all, brothers and sisters are often of similar ages, give or take a few years, so they’ll be around for most of one’s life. They’re there in some form for the highs and the lows, the craziness and the saner moments, and today, we recognize and celebrate that fact. It definitely wouldn’t be the same without them.

Siblings. They make us laugh; they make us cry; they make us angry; they make us proud; they make us worry; they make us jealous and everything else under the sun–sometimes, all at once. Above all else, they’re family, so take some time to celebrate your siblings today. (If for no other reason than to say that you remembered to and they didn’t.)

Siblings Day is a holiday recognized in many parts of the United States that celebrates the relationships of brothers and/or sisters, blood or otherwise. Of course, the appreciation of siblings should not be limited to one day, but it is good to stop and think once in a while about their role in your life and your role in theirs. You are important to one another, even if it’s not always shown or said. I enjoy recognizing and sharing such relationships on Sister/Brother Complex, and I will continue to do so for as long as I can.
